In collaboration with Cardamom Consulting, The Partition Memorial Trust and Dishoom at City, University of London, we explored how Partition is remembered and passed down: the Hindi-Urdu divide, the body as a language of its own, the Cycle of Selective Silence (Uttamchandani, 2011), and why oral testimonies matter for safeguarding memory and identity.
From Partition to Practice: Rethinking Equitable Multilingual Care for South Asian Families
This webinar explored how the legacy of Partition, migration and colonial language hierarchies still shape communication and care in South Asian families today. We looked at why language carries so much emotion, how colonial beliefs about English and home languages still show up in practice, why bilingualism is often misunderstood, and what culturally rooted care can look like — with a case study opening up conversations around assumptions and identity.

Through this film screening, we explored differences in communication styles across generations and relationships, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) to support connection when words are no longer available, and how family members can better support loved ones through these shifts.
